Gibson SG Special

Gibson SG Special on Ebay
Gibson SG Special Gibson's SG Special represented the 'middle of the road' for their line of SG guitars - that is, it wasn't the cheapest (that would be the one-pickup Junior) nor the premium model (like the Custom). It stood just below the Standard, and as a result wasn't the most briskly selling model of the line.

The SG Special featured two single-coil P-90 pickups until 1972, thereafter having two mini-humbuckers (1972-78), and two regular humbuckers on the redesigned 1985 model. The first two years sported more rounded-pointing horns on the body. The model also featured a dotted neck and smaller pickguard.

Carlos Santana brought the Special more attention when he brought one onstage at Woodstock.

Pricing: For the original model 1959 to 1978, prices depend upon age and, of course, original condition. 1959 SG Specials can bring between $6500.00 to $8000.00; later-year models $1,150.00 to $1,500.00. A substantial amount must be subtracted if the cherry finish has faded to brown.
