The paisley design came into popularity during the late 60's when the worlds of music and fashion started intersecting. The original design comes from traditional Indian art, and its arrival in the West may have coincided with the Beatles' befriending of the Maharishi about 1967.
This model was originally released in 1988. Made in Japan, this '72 Strat-style guitar features an ash wood body and maple neck; the paisley design is actually printed onto the guitar, rather than painted.
The design comes from the original 1968 Telecaster which had been decorated in this fashion.
Value: It's difficult to value this guitar offhand, because the original model was released between 1988 and 1995 and carries a higher value, which the 21st-century reissue (beginning in 2003) carries a lesser value. Thus the buyer can expect to pay anywhere from $500.00 to $1,200.00.
